Day 21

Today we had our critical design review, which is a more in depth review of our robot and its mechanisms so that we are able to start assembling it. During the review our lead designer went over every detail of the robot so that both assembly and pit crew could have a general understanding of the robot. Manufacturing started and will continue on for the next few weeks until the robot is able to be assembled.

Day 19

Today we had our preliminary design review of our robot. Our design lead led the team through all the designs on the robot and how they would work. We do this so the team members and mentors can ask questions and give the design team things to improve on before the critical design review next weekend. We had many flaws brought up by the team and the design team will be editing them and improving the overall quality of the robot so that we can start fabrication next week.

Day 18

Today we worked on inputting the designs into inventor and also finalizing and tweaking the prototypes. Tomorrow we will be having our first design review where we go over the design of our robot with the team and people who may want to work on pit crew. Prototyping is going well, but there is lots to think about while making them since this is such a complicated game. Programming is also going well as we have a large programming team this year.

Day 17

This Monday had started out slow, like any other Monday. Our team had tested some prototypes and worked on the usual things. Half way through the day the team decided with all the hard work we had been putting in we deserved a small break. So the team got out of the classroom and went to the fields to play some two hand touch football. This was a great way to relieve our stress and get our daily dose of vitamin D. Afterwards when we got back to the classroom and refocused on the tasks at hand which would be to create a working robot… prototypes.

Day 12

Today everyone continued to work on prototyping and worked on finalizing their designs of their prototype. Fabrication worked on helping mill parts for Apex Robotics and their robot. Programming continued to work on the program and finalize any errors that they could find within their code. Overall prototypes are finalized and the design of the altogether robot should start soon.

Day 11

Our team today has continued to work on their prototypes and continuing to refine them. Everyone has been continuing to work hard to design, fabricate, and test these and a lot of progress has been made in the past week since kickoff. The programming team has done a lot of work as well getting the various prototypes programmed. Integration between the different prototypes has been going well and allowed for a good idea for what the robot will look like in the end.

Day 6

Today our team is continuing to refine prototypes for the different mechanisms. Each mechanism appears to be coming together and we are starting to realize what our robot will look like. Everyone is hard at work testing geometry, motors, and other systems. Steamworks is proving to be an interesting game and we are very excited to keep building!

Day 5

We continued working in our sub teams but most of us broke off and help other teams. We worked on making our collector, hopper, shooter, and climbing mechanism. The collector made some good improvement but all around each one of our products has made a solid foundation on what their supposed to be and what they do. Now we continue to work on the design for the composition robot and any little tweaks to make the robot’s performance better.
