We have hosted WA Girls’ Generation since 2012 - Learn about how we celebrate 30+ female led teams each year!

What is Washington Girls’ Generation?

Girls’ Generation is an annual off-season FRC event that puts women and other gender minorities in control of the robot, giving them a place to feel a sense of community and togetherness among others just like them. During this event, gender minorities get to be a part of drive team, pits crew and other positions that they may never have at other competitions.

Bear Metal has been hosting Girls’ Generation in Washington for the past 13 years. After seeing Oregon's Girls Gen, held by the Flaming Chickens in 2011, we were inspired to bring it to Washington in 2012.  In 2024, Girls’ Generation gathered 32 female-led teams to compete and most of all, have fun. Each year Washington Girls’ Gen grows to have more of an impact on the women and gender minorities in STEM, opening the door for these members to find new friendships and opportunities within their team.

  • “Girls’ Generation inspired me to be a leader and stand up for myself in places where I didn’t often see other women at work”

    - Tess, FRC 2046

  • “It was amazing to see the other teams and marginalized genders get a chance to take charge in STEM!!”

    -FRC 3786

  • “Having Girls’ Gen and allowing a group of people who are typically underrepresented in STEM be at the forefront of the competition has given me the opportunity to both connect with people who have similar experiences and hear new different perspectives.”

    -Eliana, FRC 1983
